Captain Cook's land

Tahiti was great, but expensive and very, very French (say no more...). Here we are on the friendlier, cooler, less expensive and very New Zealand island of Raratonga (Cook Islands). We spent the night at the airport in Tahiti before our 7am flight out. We met up with an American (Chris) who had sold his body to science to fund his trip, a German guy and a Kiwi actor living in LA. We all crashed on the airport floor and only woke up at 5am, just in time for check in.

We have a great place on Muri Beach - hot water and a proper bed! Luxury after the tent. We have hired a car today to explore the island. Yesterday we hitched a lift into town with the High Commissioners wife. We only accept lifts from the highest classes!!!

On Sunday, after hearing about the lively church services on the island, we attended the local service. It was in Maori so we had no idea what it was all about but they were singing worship songs 'haka' style. Afterwards we were invited to a special lunch. They had two tables full of food. On one of them was a whole pig!! (Photo to follow). And we thought Glenfall lunchs were world renowned...

Wow!! So glad to hear you are having a great time and survived the camping time. I bet the haka style worship beats those who think that raising your hand is risky! We have the chance for a meal again this spring - I think they know you have gone as it is only for 4 people this time! Take care, fi
